A Fire Stick that is running slow usually just has a full cache. Clearing it takes a minute and fixes most lag.

What the cache does

Apps store temporary files to load faster. Over time these pile up and can slow the stick, freeze apps or fill the small amount of storage.

How to clear the cache

  1. From the home screen, go to Settings then Applications.
  2. Choose Manage Installed Applications.
  3. Pick the app that is misbehaving — usually your player or the launcher.
  4. Select Clear cache (not Clear data — that logs you out).

When to clear data instead

Clear data only if an app keeps crashing or will not log in. It resets the app completely, so you will need to sign back in.

Other speed fixes

  • Restart the stick once a week (Settings then My Fire TV then Restart).
  • Delete apps you no longer use.
  • Keep at least 500 MB of storage free.

Clearing the cache will not delete your IPTV login, so it is safe to do whenever the stick feels sluggish.
